Road Trippin with the Grants
Ah, I remember the good ol' days -- before we had kids, Andy and I were too broke (cheap?) to fly, so we used to road trip it a lot.
But we haven't taken any road trips since Sally was born. Until now...
We thought it might be fun to take our first family road trip, so we are driving to Houston on Wednesday. According to Google, it's about a 17-hour trip. So we've been doing some research to get tips and make plans.
In talking with friends who took lots of road trips as children (and friends who have kids and STILL take road trips), it seems like our best bet is to leave pre-dawn, as early as possible on Day 1. Plan a "target" city to spend the night and have a backup plan.
So we're planning to leave by 3AM Wednesday and arrive in Wichita Falls, Texas some time before 6PM that day. We'll crash there and drive the rest on Thursday.
I've been downloading kids' books on tape as well as music and stuff to keep us entertained en route.
Wish us luck!
