Our Hallowed Eve...

Last night was a blast -- let me fill you in.

First off, I had planned to take Sally to have her photo taken at The Picture People yesterday afternoon, but we figured it would be better to let her sleep, so we did.

At school, she got to do crafts, which of course she loves.

Then, when she woke from her nap, we got her dressed in her Hula Girl costume. This consisted of a shirt, plus a beige turtleneck, plus a bikini top over that. And of course, a silk lei and silk flower armband.

Then she had on leggins, beige pants, and her grass skirt. We put a silk flower anklet over her pants leg. Cute. And pink tennis shoes (we figured 25degree weather was a bit cold to go barefoot).

She carried her beach bucket to collect her treats, and everyone thought her costume was adorable (which of course it was). And I was so sick of seeing Disney princesses the whole night, I was thrilled that we had gone with something more original than that!

We literally had about a dozen options/invitations for the evening, and it became clear as we got started around 4:15PM that we were not going to make it to everything.

We started trick-or-treating at the outlet mall in Castle Rock. That was fun -- most of hte stores participated, excpet the ones you wouldn't expect to (the Christian bookstore, the china shop, expensive furniture store, etc.) Even Coach handbags participated -- with a representative standing outside, so the kids weren't traipsing through the Coach store!

Sally scored a whole bucket full of candy (it pays to have a unique costume) and was quite delighted.

When given stickers instaed of candy, she politely refused, "No thanks, I have enough." Too funny.

She did not appear to be frightened by the scary costumes, but was most intrigued by a full Donald-Duck costume (complete with Disney park-style headpiece). She could not stop staring at that girl, and as we were finally walking away, Sally said "Your hat is too funny." I thought Donald was going to fall over, she was laughing so hard.

Then we headed back to our house so Mommy could pee, adn we visited our neighbors. Cori was dressed as a hippie chick (did I mention I used my kangaroo costume, complete with pouch? Andy was a Killer Bee. Oh yes, we were quite the lookers.) and we met Jodie's mom who is in town visiting.

Then we hopped in teh car and headed to Marianna's house (Sally's friend who lives nearby) for cupcakes and (gasp!) more candy. At one point, Sally turned and looked at me all exasperated and said, "My hands are freezing!" Natalie had put their fire pit out in the driveway, so I showed Sally how to warm her hands while I went to teh car to get her gloves and hat. Then we started calling her the "displaced hula girl."

We hung out there for about 40 minutes and then headed back to our neighborhood for trick or treating.

Sally had a great time trick or treating and seeing all the other kids. She would squeal with delight every time someone dropped a piece of candy into her bucket. Some pieces of candy, she just wanted to hold on to. Surprisingly, she didn't ask me to unwrap very much -- I don't think she ate more than 5 or 6 pieces all night, which was a big switch from last year!

While we were out trick-or-treating, we stopped at her friend McKenna's house in the neighborhood -- I thikn I told you about them, McKenna's mom is a flight attendant with Continental.

Anyway, when we go to their house, we noticed there were tons of people there. Suddenly, I rememberd what I had totally forgotten (pregnancy brain)!!! They were having an open house for the neighborhood!

So we hung out there for a couple of hours and had a great time. I met several people who had lived in Louisiana at some point (Ken, McKenna's dad, went to LSU).

In fact, Kera (McKenna's mom) was talking about her cousin -- Penny Eppling -- and I said what?!? Did she go to St. Catherine? Kera called her and sure enough, she did -- she was in Sr. Marceline's class with me in 3rd grade. I got to talk to her on the phone -- she moved to Denver after Katrina and is a nurse here. Hysterical!!!

Ken drove us home at about 9pm (most people had left by then and it was below FREEZING outside, and we didn't really want to walk the several blocks home).

We put Sally straight to bed and expected her to wake up around 3AM (which is what happens when she eats sugar too much) but she slept until about 6:30 and then laid in bed with us for a little while.

I went to bed shortly afterwards as well.

So we had an excellent time last night -- and got to meet some more of our neighbors at the party. Pix coming soon...
